Comics come in every style imaginable. Comedy, drama, action, horror, sci-fi, or fantasy, they’re all there. They have once a day comic strips for those who like it gradual and monthly or less comic books for those who like it all at once. Don’t like reading? Many comics are purely situational, having little or no text involved. Like video games? Read sprite comics or fan fictions. Like anime? Read manga. Like current events? Read a political cartoon. Even the art comes in many fashions, ranging from highly realistic and toned to outrageously cartoony full color fills. Whatever you enjoy, you can feel guaranteed that that there’s at least one comic out there for you.
Reading comics can also increase you knowledge base. They say reading improves your ability to read, and that high literacy is tied to success. But those books, with their mountains upon mountains of letters, just seem so scary, don’t they? Who has the time and patience to read them, anyway? Fear not, for books are not the only reading based form of entertainment. But what else could there be? Why none other than comics! With their pickup-and-putdown attitude, you can read them on the fly, and the pictures simply make the atmosphere more inviting. You may at one point come across a word you don’t know or a reference you don’t get, but this only inevitably leads to you looking it up, thus increasing your vocabulary and trivia knowledge base, making you all the more intelligent.
Lastly, they can improve your imagination. With such fantastic notions as people who can fly, space-men with high-tech lasers, and fire breathing dragons, you can’t help but be engulfed in a world of endless possibilities. After a time, you may even at some point decide you want to make stories of your own and start forming complex characters, back-stories, and plots of your own. These ideas may someday blossom into a lucrative career as a movie director, novelist, or even a comic artist.
Comics are a great form of entertainment, education, and excitement, but you may be asking, “Where can I find comics?” The answer is: everywhere. They’re all around you: in the newspaper, in magazines, on television, in advertisements, on the Internet, and in a plethora of other places. So, what are you waiting for? Go read a comic!
